Ladies Fitness Centers

Do you find that mixed-sex gyms are gendered? As in, ladies on cardio and men on weights?

I am doing a project on the gendrification of the gym. I want to know if you feel that when you go to the gym, that certain areas are particularly used by males or females. If you're a female, do you feel like you can't go over to the weights section because it is a particularly male-dominated area? Or is it completely mixed?

  3. LOL..actually u r very right...I started to go to Gym since this Jan(2009 resolution!)I was afraid to go to the weight area at first cause I didn't know how could i use the machines ..but after I ve got a personal trainer I really feel more self confidence and sometimes when I m alone just by myself I m actually proud to go there cause I know there is no more mistake but I can see always there r like 10 guys and 2-3 middle ages ladies (my english isnt that good I liked your question tho)
  4. Yes. Mostly the women are on cardio machines while the men are on the weights. I think women feel intimidated by the men to go over to the weight section. Plus women believe that using weights makes them bulky. I on the other hand have no problems with using weights as I see the best results and no they do not make you bulky; genetics, diet, supplementation, and steroids is what makes a person bulky regardless of gender. I hate to see women who are 90 lbs on the elliptical when they should be lifting weights.
